GoFit wanted to enter into a new segment of home fitness exercise called Suspension Training. So, what is Suspension Training? It’s the act of defying gravity by lifting your body weight while being suspended above the ground. This is a great way to train at home with minimal equipment and limited space. WhiteBoard designers were ready for the challenge.

In collaboration with GoFit, WhiteBoard evaluated the Suspension Training trend and brainstormed possible solutions. After a few ideation sessions, the Gravity Bar concept was created. The key challenge was how to secure and control the handles and nylon material. The breakthrough came with the invention of an articulating center yoke that gathered the nylon webbing at a central location. Quick adjustment of length was also a key requirement and the designers developed a solution that allows users a large range of adjustment for an assortment of different exercises. A computer-aided design model was engineered and the first prototype was machined, fabricated and painted in-house. The whole process from concept to prototype took only 3 months and was soon on the market at various sporting goods retailers nationwide.
